The Woods by Sam Krisch
Studio 308 is pleased to announce the opening of THE WOODS by Sam Krisch. The exhibition is a new body of work by Krisch that uses an alternative from the traditional photographic print.
“I’m excited by the capabilities of this new medium for my work,“ says Krisch. “We use archival inks on microthin Indian Birch wood veneers that have been manufactured for digital printing. Then we mount them on more substantial pieces of wood for hanging or display and use a protective coating for permanence.”
The images and the wood veneers work together. The wood grain is visible in the photographs and adds an organic and tactile effect. In some of the works, the wood grain seems like brushstrokes, in others, added weather or atmosphere.
The exhibition will open for Art by Night on Friday, November 3 from 5-9 pm at the studio and also by appointment at 540 761-2002.
Studio 308 is located at 308 First Street SW, between Kirk and Church Avenues in Downtown Roanoke. Gallery and workshop information and a portfolio of Krisch’s work, can be seen at samkrisch.com
