October 27 & 29, 2017 at Jefferson Center
Opera Roanoke opens its “Puccini is Passion” Season with Tosca on October 27 at 7:30pm and 29 at 3:00pm at the Jefferson Center. Not seen in Roanoke since 2001, Puccini’s melodrama teems with its composer’s signature blend of sweeping passions and compelling theatricality. The show features a cast of Opera Roanoke returning favorites and nationally recognized singers including, Dinyar Vania (La Traviata ’16), Thomas Cannon (Madama Butterfly ’11), and Emily Langford Johnson (Falstaff ’08) in the title role. This taut musical thriller, at its core a fatal love triangle, is a perfect opera for the weekend before Halloween. Opera Roanoke strives to make each performance a “total work of art” by using a full orchestra, extravagant costumes and breath-taking sets to create a world shared by both performers and audience members alike.
