Hodges. Objects range from photograph frames, tableware, desk accessories, boxes, clocks, and jewelry to cigarette cases and smoking accessories. All of the works illustrate the consummate skill of the House of Fabergé and its inimitable use of precious and semi-precious materials to create luxury objects of the highest order

Starroot at Art Pannonia
April 4 through May 29
Art Pannonia is very proud to present visionary surrealist STARROOT as the next featured artist in the downtown Blacksburg art gallery, where fine art meets the best local and international artists in the New River Valley. Some of you know her as Ruth Newman, artist, musician, poet and story teller. She was born in Germany and from childhood Ruth created art incorporating inspirations, fantasies and dreams. This is the second show of STARROOT at Art Pannonia. She plans to exhibit a retrospective of her artistic JOURNEY. Her paintings are unusual, challenging and beautiful. Combining folk art and surrealism, and incorporating Tibetan, Mayan and Native American cultures and traditions, the paintings are rendered in vibrating bright colors, full of aliens and space animals, fairies and angels. Starroot has exhibited in numerous art festivals and has sold hundreds of originals and prints to various collectors in the US and Germany. Her “Mirror GODDESS” hangs in the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore.

Bill White and Jamie Nervo at the Market Gallery
May through May 30
The Market Gallery featured artists are Bill White and Jamie Nervo for May 1 through May 30. Please join us to meet and chat with the artists at their reception Friday, May 4, Art by Night, 5:30 to 9 p.m. Bill and Jamie will provide gallery talks at 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. Bill White’s recent paintings are from the Gulf Coast of Florida. His paintings focus on the light and atmosphere that are unique to the panhandle region. Jamie Nervo’s new abstract paintings are built on shapes, color and layered spaces that live in her mind. As Jamie notes, “There is not heavy rational thinking or reason in my work. Life constantly reinvents itself as we are constantly figuring out the survival end. Life bombards us with negative imagery that resonates in our mind. I try to remain focused on, and draw my inspiration and energy from, the more light-hearted aspects of our world. My work is both a way for me to escape the unsavory facets of life as well as to offer every viewer an alternate realm where experiences are a patchwork of pleasant ideas and color”.

16 Hands Tour in Floyd County
May 5th through May 6th
16 Hands, a collective of artists from the Blue Ridge Mountains, will hold its spring tour in scenic Floyd County on the weekend of May 5-6. This bi-annual tour, held during Thanksgiving weekend in the fall and the first weekend in May every spring, began as a way for members of the group to not only share their knowledge and talents with each other but also build relationships with the community that supports them. As a result, members of 16 Hands open their studios and homes to the public, providing an opportunity to showcase their artwork and also allowing the community an authentic glimpse into their lives and inspirations. In addition to viewing the work of the eight member artists, tour goers have the opportunity to interact with guest artists from all over the country and the world. “We really feel like having guest artists on the tour keeps it fresh and interesting. Featuring rotating artists with a variety of mediums helps the tour appeal to all types of people, says Copus.”

Maureen Hearn Jewelry on the Floyd County Artisan Trail
Hidden away in the Blue Ridge Mountains is Maureen Hearn, an extraordinary jeweler. Living in the town of Copper Hill was an influence in her decision to use copper as her primary jewelry metal. Beginning from scratch, so to speak, Maureen creates her own unique style of jewelry. She is constantly working on new styles and combines her copper creations with glass and stone as well as using silver and gold as accents. While copper tends to tarnish quickly, Maureen takes the time to lacquer all her pieces so they remain as beautiful as the day you made your purchase.
